Class of 2016

FRESHMAN PARENT UPDATE

Thank you for visiting the Class of 2016 Parents' page. This page will be updated throughout the year to provide upcoming news and events pertaining to the Class of 2016. We appreciate all the many volunteers who have offered to share their time and effort to arrange activities and programs for our parents, plan student activities and keep our class informed. We encourage all parents to volunteer for the many opportunities offered during the school year to enrich your experience at New Trier. A quarterly publication, Parents' Press, will arrive via mail as an additional resource to keep all families informed. We look forward to a terrific start for the Class of 2016. Please contact us with any questions or suggestions. Class Chairs, Susan Schmitt and Sue Siegel

From the 2016 Class Chairs

From the Spring issue of the quarterly "Parents' Press"

Can you believe it? Our freshmen are in the home stretch and will soon say farewell to the Northfield campus. New experiences, new opportunities and expanded friendships have melded this amazing group of now high-schoolers who will use this foundation as a springboard to the Winnetka campus in the fall. The NTPA and Class of 2016 are sponsoring a program for parents entitled "Movin' On Up: A Parent Orientation to the Winnetka Campus" from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16 in Gaffney Auditorium on the Winnetka campus. It will be an informative evening for parents about the Northfield-to-Winnetka transition process. WinnetkaPrincipal, Dr. Tim Dohrer, and sophomore adviser chairs, Sharon Weiner and Scott Williams, will lead the presentation, followed by a sophomore student panel discussion and student-led tours of the campus. Please join us for the final Parent Social Gathering of the year, an evening event beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, kindly hosted by the Weber family in Glencoe. Watch your email inbox for further details. Special thanks to Dana Fallon for her hospitality at our lovely February morning coffee, expertly planned by Julie Arment, Michelle Kane and their committee. We enjoyed hearing from Robyn Gold-Kessler and Megan Polydoris, who gave an informative overview New Trier Peer Services and the Student Assistance Program. They also addressed the transition to sophomore year and fielded questions during a lively Q & A.

During the past quarter our freshmen enjoyed the well-attended Turnabout Dance on February 9 and the All-School Seminar Day on February 12 where they heard teacher, student and outside speakers offer ideas on "expanding the circle." The end of February brought the culmination of the four-year planning process and online registration for sophomore year classes through the new Home Access Center.

As we think about the school year winding down, we are again grateful for the volunteer efforts of our Adviser Room Representatives who provide a critical link between the NTPA and our parents throughout the year; our Executive Board, listed to the right, who have given freely of their time, expertise and guidance; Principal Paul Waechtler and Assistant Principal Denise Hibbard for their support of our children and the NTPA; and Marla Tracy and Mark Howard, freshman Adviser Chairs, for their consistent involvemen
