Grades and Attendance

INCOMING FRESHMEN

Grades
Enrichment Courses: All classes will appear on the student's transcript. The student will  receive a P (pass, credit earned) or an AU (audit, no credit earned). A student who does not meet the  academic requirements of the class will receive an AU grade. Neither grade affects the grade point average.
Graded Courses: Freshman may not take graded courses.

Attendance 
An incoming freshman who exceeds the absence limit for a class will not receive credit and  may be dropped from that class. Tardy times will accumulate and be counted as an absence when appropriate.  

Absence Limits 
 
 · A semester course that meets 2 hours/day for 7 weeks has an absence limit of 4 days.
  · A semester course that meets 2 hours/day for 3½ weeks has an absence limit of 2 days.
  ·
A semester course that meets 4 or 5 hours/day for 3½ weeks has an absence limit of 2 days.
 NOTE:
 A student who exceeds the absence limit will not receive credit and may be dropped from the class.

RISING SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, AND SENIORS

Grades
Enrichment Courses: These courses will appear on the student's transcript with a P (pass,  credit earned) or an AU (audit, no credit earned). A student who does not meet the academic  requirements of the class will receive an AU grade. Neither grade affects the grade point  average.
Graded Courses: Students earn letter grades, as they do in the regular school year. Students  may  not take these courses for audit credit.

Attendance 
For attendance purposes, a 1-credit course consists of two semesters, and the attendance  rules apply accordingly; i.e., a student may miss no more than 2 days per semester. Tardy times will accumulate and be counted as an absence when appropriate.

Absence Limits 
 
 · A semester course that meets 2 hours/day for 7 weeks has an absence limit of 4 days.
  · A semester course that meets 2 hours/day for 3 ½ weeks has an absence limit of 2 days.

A semester course that meets 4 or 5 hours/day for 3 ½ weeks has an absence limit of 2 days.
 NOTE:
 A student who exceeds the absence limit in an enrichment course will not receive credit and may be dropped from the class.
 A student to exceeds the absence limit before the drop date for a graded course will be dropped from the class, will receive no credit, and will not be allowed to return to class.
 A student who exceeds the absence limit after the drop date in a graded course will receive an F grade and will be removed from the class.
 

DROP DATES

A student who chooses to drop a graded course must do so before the deadline, or the course will appear on the transcript with a grade of WP (Withdraw/Pass) or
WF (Withdraw/Fail).
 Semester 1 deadline: June 16 
 Semester 2 deadline: July 10

SYMBOLS

 * Courses marked * do not meet department requirements for graduation.
 ** Courses marked ** require the student to accomplish daily what is expected in a week during the regular school year.
 Fr., So., Jr., Sr. These designations refer to the student’s status in the fall of 2009.
